Our community served as the capital of the emerging state of Illinois from 1819 to 1839 and today the city is a blend of beautifully restored historical sites and stately homes of the past. Our downtown business district was recently renovated and now boasts new paving, sidewalks and many specialty shops. Business presence is also rapidly growing at our west interchange. We are home to many beautiful churches and a modern hospital and schools. During the spring and summer many tourists opt to spend their time visiting our picturesque community parks and 660 acre recreational lake.
